What Really Matters?

Steve Jobs said this during a commencement speech at Stanford University. Personally I think that he had come to terms with death, as early as 2006 when this speech was given. He went on to  state: "Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart." 


With that being said i think that we all have to start living with our hearts. Live like nothing else matters and live completely without regrets. Here is a man who was facing death and he was able to live from his heart first and foremost. He said it best we all must avoid the trap of thinking we have something to lose. When you live a life in retrospect you miss out on tremendous opportunities and learning experiences. Living your life continuously saying "what if I had.." or "what if we..." , is pointless. You should be living intentionally and if you do not like something that results from what you decided to do, take it as a lesson, learn from it and continue to live from your heart. Free yourself from the binds that we oh so often put on ourselves.  
Live each day as if it is your last, not in fear of losing or not being remembered, but live as though the world is your stage and you are there to benefit those around you with your passion. Some day you will die. It's inevitable. But today you are alive.  So make it worth it. Realize what is truly important and go forth. Rethink with your heart.

Newton's Third Law

Karma; the consequences of your life are sown into what you do or how you behave. What happens to us in my opinion is a direct reflection of the energy that we put into the world. More often than not, people believe that they have bad Karma but in reality everything that happens to us wether good or not so good is a blessing. For in that experience you learn something from it.  We are all responsible for our own causes and the energy we put into the world. But our actions and reactions are intertwined. So how do we make sure that we emit that positive energy needed to make the world go round? What do we do. First I would say that you realize that the world is bigger than you. Everything that you do and how you interact with the world is the result of a larger entity. What happens daily, how you interact with the world is the result of people and the world working together to make sure that your day goes according to your routine. Everything that you use was made for the betterment of society.  Secondly what you give is what you get. The world owes you nothing. But you, you owe the world and everything in it, all of your being. The world wether personal or on a larger scale will only be as great as you make it. You have to be able to whole heartedly deposit  happiness into the world and release positivity to be able to truly enhance it. When you put out happiness and doing loving things for others you are truly happier. Disharmony is not what we need. The over arching theme of Karma in my opinion is not just emit positive energy in hopes or expectations of receiving something back. But to put into the earth and world around us to better those that we interact with.  "Newton's third law: All forces in the universe occur in equal but oppositely directed pairs. There are no isolated forces; for every external force that acts on an object there is a force of equal magnitude but opposite direction which acts back on the object which exerted that external force."

That Which is Good

That which is Good. 

Recently I was asked, "what have you learned about yourself this summer?" I read that and said hmph... What have I learned? Granted I had experienced some things this summer that I never thought I would in a million years. But I wasn't sure if I had learned anything worthwhile from those experiences. Then I looked back an realized exactly what I always say. Everything happens for a reason and that reason will cause you to learn about yourself.  So I continued to think and as I began to write I came up with a number of things that I learned about myself. Here are a few. 

-I have learned that I cannot control everything and everybody. 
-That all things happen in Gods time. 
-That it is ok for me to not be perfect. 
-That I am stronger than I give myself credit for. 
-That I do not know everything and that i have so much more to learn about life as well as myself. 
-That the world is ever changing and thus I cannot become stagnant and complacent by things that I am use to getting. 
-That rejection is not a bad thing. It's Gods way of telling me that that is not his will for me. 
-That God and God alone is the master of my fate and I have all the tools necessary to be successful. 
-I emit the energy that I wish to receive. 
- I cannot wait to be assigned, I have to assign myself. 
- I have to be fully and completely in love with myself despite my situation or circumstance. 
- Life is what I make it and I am determined to be joyous in ever situation. 

Life is a continuous journey in learning and mastering ones self. To be able to grow and learn about myself is very rewarding. I learn things about myself that I fall in Love with and things that I am not so happy about. But that which is Good is not always what we need to hear. So take life as it comes. Live without regret.  Proceed, progress and refine yourself each and everyday and strive to learn. When you are fully open to learning about yourself. You will see your best self come to fruition. So I ask you. What have you learned about yourself? What are you willing to learn about yourself?

Reality

I often find myself reading quotes that have to deal with leadership, wisdom, character and work ethic. And I think to myself; that is a really good quote. I must apply that to my life. Then as quick as I read it I forget it. Why is that? It's like I know that I am capable of any and everything that crosses my path, but yet somehow I just seem to think that things will just fall into my lap. And that I don't have to work hard. That is not the case at all. I know that I am determined to go far and to reach my goals. I know that as a person, I am constantly growing. I know that I want to be this great person but what I do not know is what path to take. It is one thing to tell yourself that you want to be great. It's another thing to make up your mind and to be great. 

I recently read a blog from a fellow Hampton Alum. In her most recent blog, she talked about Jordan;  his  character, his work ethic and passion. She talked about how he was not always the person that we see as Michael Jordan. He was cut from his high school basketball team. He had to grow into his build. But he continued to work hard and was determined to make being a part of the basketball team a reality. 

With that said, I realize that we all need to be able to apply ourselves to what we are passionate about to make it a reality. I am pretty sure that nobody expected Michael Jordan to make it to the NBA, when he first entered high school. But he worked hard even in defeat. He continued to work towards what he wanted his reality to be. I think that we sometimes get caught up in the fact or the stigma that stars where born stars. Hardly; Oprah was not always Oprah, Will Smith, Diane Sawyer, Kanye West, Drake. All of these stars had to begin somewhere. They in my opinion dug deep into their passion and did not stop until it became a reality. 

Of late I have been more reserved and quiet. Gone through things that have truly made me question not only my being but my passion as well. I felt unappreciated, discouraged, defeated, and any other word that let's you know that I felt despair. But it was in my darkest hour when I knelt before the Lord that I had to ask the Lord to draw me nearer and to help me make a reality out of my passion. I can say that after I stepped back and allowed God to show me just what I was here to do that I became more determined than ever. I had to look back at the days and the high moments of the year and not necessarily the bad. Because in turn everything that had/has happened was and is setting me up for a reality that will be out of the world. Nothing comes without a hard work. Even when opportunity knocks, a man still has to get up off his seat and open the door. So work hard to make your passion a reality.

Welcome

Welcome to my World. My thoughts, my beliefs, my life.

Many a times I sat back and wondered what my purpose here on earth was. I questioned my existence and my relevance to the world around me. Through everything I realize that my ultimate purpose where I can truly live for me and be satisfied and content every morning that I wake up would happen if each and every day I served those around me. I wake up with the mindset of "I'm yearning to serve".

Service to me is giving of yourself wholeheartedly. Without expecting a reaction or gratitude. Serving others is the cement that binds the world together. It is that unbreakable bond that allows the world to function as one. For every action there is a reaction. And if the reaction is for the betterment of the world around us all. Every action is then worthwhile.

John Gloster-Smith a life coach views servitude like this. "Service for us is something done for another without expectation of reward. It is when the ego is put on one side, hence the term “selfless service”. The ego is the sense of “I” that has to be protected, looked after at all costs, fearing some kind of loss, in survival protection mode. In that space, service would be conditional on getting something back. Selfless service is beyond the small “I” of the ego. Here, you and I are One. When I serve you, I serve the greater “I am” which is intrinsic in all of us."

So I challenge you as you journey through the good days and bad and to challenge yourself to seek out your purpose to find that spirit and that space that enables you to do exactly what you were put on the earth to do, that calm that allows you to live without regret.
